SOUTHAMPTON ABC’s Jack Hillier has scored a great win.

He travelled to Wales to beat the British 50kg junior champion Kane Shepperd with a stunning second round knockout.

Coach Gary White reported: “The first round was fairly even with Shepperd boxing well off the back foot while Jack was pateintly stalking him down.

“We felt Jack was too strong for him and told him to up the work rate in the second round which he did straight away.

“He started to slow Shepperd down and, after landing a nice right hand, the left hook that followed knocked him out.

“It was a great performance from Jack, made even better by the fact that he lost to Shepperd in the Three Nations when he was boxing for England and the fact he was facing him in his own backyard.

“Jack has had some disappointments lately, he felt he didn’t do himself justice in the World Championships and then missed out on going to Russia in the Europeans after not being selected.

“But he has got back in the gym and trained harder than ever and this win has made him believe in himself again.

“If he keeps improving, and keeps working hard in the gym, there will be plenty of England call- ups.”
