SHANE Warne will attempt to win a place in the Big Bash semi-finals with Melbourne Stars tomorrow morning.

The former Hampshire captain will be the star attraction when the final group game of Australia’s domestic Twenty20 competition is played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Warne’s Melbourne Stars will book a semi-final place against the Perth Scorchers this Saturday if they beat the Adelaide Strikers, who cannot qualify.

The other semi-final, between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Sixers, will be played on Sunday.

If the Stars qualify it will be at the expense of Brisbane Heat, for whom former Hampshire man Dan Christian smashed 75 from 47 balls to ensure a third successive win that keeps their hopes alive.

But Shahid Afridi’s Melbourne Renegades are out after they suffered a third successive defeat in their final game, by seven wickets in Hobart.
