South Wilts grabbed four top-order Ventnor wickets for only eight runs – two in the opening over - to lay the foundations for a second consecutive ECB Southern Electric Premier League victory.
They went on to secure a four-wicket win after Ian Hilsum had led a plucky mid-afternoon fightback by the newly promoted Islanders, who recovered their nightmare start to post 163-8.
Given a typically aggressive response by Australian Glenn Maxwell, South Wilts overcame a wobble or two to win, James Hayward adding an air of responsibility to his normally carefree style of play to secure the win points.
