Sohail Tanvir makes his one-day debut for Hampshire against Derbyshire at The Ageas Bowl tonight.

The Pakistani has been included in a 12-man squad, while West Indies star Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been named in Derbyshire’s 14-man party.

Champions Hampshire will return to the top of Group B if they record an eighth win in nine Yorkshire Bank 40 games, with at least one game still in hand on their nearest rivals.

Chris Wood returns after missing the last Championship match with a knee injury.

Derbyshire will be captained by former Fareham hockey star Wayne Madsen while Chanderpaul will open the batting with Chesney Hughes, the Anguillan all-rounder recommended to the county by Hampshire legend Cardigan Connor.

Chanderpaul and 22 year-old left-hander Hughes are Derbyshire’s leading run scorers in the competition, with 155 at 77.5 and 103 at 34.3 respectively.

With 11 wickets at 13.6 apiece, former Notts and England Under-19 fast bowler Mark Footitt is Derbyshire’s dangerman with the ball. Hughes Play begins at 4.40pm.

Meanwhile, Hampshire will be taking on a Surrey side without Chris Adams at the helm when they begin their Friends Life t20 defence at the Ageas Bowl next Wednesday.

Adams was sacked as team director yesterday, following Surrey’s poor start to the season.

Hampshire’s only YB40 defeat of their defence, by nine wickets at The Oval last month, is one of only two wins that Surrey have managed in all competitions this year.

Alec Stewart is in temporary charge. Surrey play a championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley beginning on Friday, before taking on Hampshire under the Ageas Bowl floodlights a week tomorrow.
