Eight Hampshire cricketers are to feature in an annual Charity Celebrity Sixes Day at St Cross Symondians Cricket Club to raise money for the club and Hampshire Cricket Community Trust.

Jimmy Adams, Neil McKenzie, Liam Dawson, Michael Roberts, Adam Rouse, Sean Terry, David Griffiths and Danny Briggs will take part as eight teams battle it out in a five-overs-a-match, six-a-side tournament on Sunday.

McKenzie said: “I was there last year and the year before and St Cross put on a really good event. It’s for a good cause and it brings the community together. Everyone enjoys it and it’s nice to see people come out and support two worthy causes.”

Play will start at 10.30am with the final at 6.00pm and variety of food and drink offerings will be available at the ground with plenty of off-the-field activities going on, including a raffle and stalls.

Event Organiser Mike Adams, said; “Community is everything. As a local Trust, coaching the 200 juniors we have at the ground every week, we need all the support we can get. Similarly, Hampshire Cricket Community Trust has strong plans to enhance the cricket access right across the county so we are doing our bit to help them out as much as possible.

“We’re looking forward to a great day and we encourage as many people as possible to come along to the club, just outside Winchester, and support a fantastic event.”

Hampshire Cricket Community Trust Manager, Simon Fox said; “There has been a real renaissance this year across the country - as well as in Hampshire - in terms of communities strongly connecting once again and helping each other out. This is perfectly illustrated by Hampshire captain, Jimmy Adams’ club St Cross, whose gesture of proceeds to the Community Trust is wonderfully kind and thoughtful. It’s going to be a great day for both teams and spectators and a high-quality spectacle.

“I would also like to thank Mike Adams for this grand gesture and his outstanding support of the Trust. The donation will be put to great use with us subsequently being able to support our expansion of cricket and health delivery across the county, particularly to those people who are less fortunate than others. Sport is the lifeblood of our society and great gestures such as this from St Cross help keep the dreams alive for lots of young people across the county.”
