HAVING seen off one former Hampshire teammate in the Big Bash League semi-finals, Hampshire’s Michael Carberry with go head-to-head with another in the final of the competition.
In today’s last-four clash, Carberry smashed 50 from 36 balls as Perth Scorchers recovered from 19-2 to post 144-7 against a Melbourne Stars side featuring former Rose Bowl batsman Kevin Pietersen.
Carberry will now face Michael Lumb (Sydney Sixers), who left Hampshire in 2011, in the final of the competition on Wednesday.
Carberry, batting at four, top-scored for Scorchers against the Stars, opener Shaum Marsh (35) and Nathan Coulter-Nile , with a rapid 22 at the death, the only other batsmen to make an impact.
In reply, Stars made a solid start with Luke Wright and Cameron White putting on 39 for the first wicket.
Pietersen weighed in with 31 – including a huge switch-hit six – at quicker than a run a ball but once Peter Handscomb was third out with the score on 70, Stars lost their way.
Pietersen was fifth out with the score on 88 as Andrew Tye (4-18) and Hampshire signing Yasir Arafat (2-22) sent them tumbling to 122 all out and an 18-run defeat.
