HAMPSHIRE prospect Brad Taylor has suffered an 86-run defeat in his first match as England Under-19 captain in a pre-ICC World Cup tri-series tournament in Sri Lanka.
In a rain-trimmed match, India piled up 254-7 – Taylor taking 1-33 from five overs, his wicket coming courtesy of a Mason Crane catch - with England making 159-9 off their 29 overs, having been set 246 to win.
Taylor bagged a duck and Hampshire team-mate Crane, who bowled seven overs of leg spin for 52, was out for three.
Essex opener Dan Lawrence (55) top scored for the England tyros with a 46-ball 55, while Somerset seamer Ben Green (3-28) was the pick of the attack.
The next game is played tomorrow.
