CAPTAIN Richard Morris hopes Hampshire prodigy Sean Terry can boost Bashley’s Southern Electric title tilt this season – but claims it is too early to tell how the league will pan out.

The Bashley Road club, runners up in 2012, began their campaign in style with a narrow win over fancied Havant last week with 21-year-old starlet Terry hitting 117.

And Morris, who names an unchanged side for tomorrow’s trip to Alton, is confident he can call on the son of Hampshire legend Paul Terry on a regular basis as Bashley look to build on last year’s success.

Morris said: “Sean will be available for us most weeks.

Good village side “He was here last season and enjoys coming down because there are similarities between our club and the one he played for in Australia.

“We are a good village side that attracts the better players and we're glad he enjoys his cricket here because he is very much a part of our plans.”

But despite Bashley's bright start, Morris insists that his players should not get carriedaway withlast season's lofty finish.

Asked whether a championship challenge is on the cards, the Bashley skipper added: “It is too early to tell and it is hard to judge exactly where we are after last season.

“We did feel we had the best season we've ever had, but everything was curtailed by the rain.

“When I took over the captaincy the club wanted to wipe the slate clean and build from the bottom up.

“No one was expecting overnight success, we just wanted to improve life on and off the field.

“We are a community club and the social aspectis important as well.

“We are a year ahead of where we thought we would be and results were much better than we expected.

“It (a title push) is realistic, and, if we win it, then great, but if it is another year of consolidation then so be it.

“That said, if we play like we did last week against Havant then we will win more than we lose this season.”

On Alton, Morris said: “We know what to expect. They may not have many stars but they always play as a team and in all my years in cricket I have never had an easy game there.

“They will pose a different challenge because they know how to play the conditions on their home ground. They will scrap and fightfor every run.”
