Wayne Smith took five wickets for ten runs as Fawley hauled themselves off the Southern Electric Premier League Division 1 basement with a first win of the season at Liphook & Ripsley.

They bowled the East Hampshire side out for 102 before completing a seven-wicket victory.

Smith’s decisive spell sent Liphook tumbling from a comfortable 70-3 (Rob Nicklin 27) to 102 all out – the last seven wickets clattering for 32 runs.

The burly off-spinner began the collapse with three wickets for two runs at one point Harry Munt (24) did his best to keep Liphook afloat, but was fighting a lost cause.

Andy Parratt (18) gave Fawley a positive start and while skipper Paul Marks remained at the crease, the Oilmen were always likely winners.

Marks finished with 34 not out as Fawley moved off the SPL1 basement for the first time this season.
