Teenager Harry Hovey hit a boundary off the penultimate ball of the match to give Havant a dramatic three-wicket win and spare the Southern Electric Premier League giants an Electric twenty20 Cup quarter-final upset at Tichborne Park.

The Alresford side, pushing hard for promotion from Division 3, posted what appeared a moderate 115-8, but chasing targets, however modest, is never easy at Tichborne.

Havant predictably struggled to get across the line, with Chris Stone (26) and Stuart Ransley (19) providing vital middle-order contributions.

Tichborne refused to buckle and made Havant fight every inch of the way before Hovey’s, below, late boundary secured their semi-final slot.

Cup holders South Wilts overcame an uncertain start – Martin James (3-19) claiming three early wickets – to beat Basingstoke & North Hants by 32 runs.

A half-century by Jack Mynott (53) shaped the South Wilts innings, while James Hayward (48) prospered after being missed twice early on.

Dan Coombes (37) gave Basingstoke a chance but leg spinner Jake Foley (5-24) ripped through the Bounty tail.

Sarisbury Athletic secured a third successive semi-final berth, beating Paultons by seven wickets.

Australian Scott Duggan hit a face saving half-century as Paultons were in trouble, but defending a moderate 121-6 at Allotment Road proved beyond them.

Zimbabwean Kieran Geyle (42) and Peter Hammond (30) guided Sarisbury home.
