Football manager Paul Doswell is backing top gun Andy Forbes to get back in the scoring groove for Eastleigh.

For a man who has netted 70 times for the Spitfires in the past three years, the 27-year-old has been unusually slow off the mark this season and is still awaiting his first Blue Square Conference South goal.

It almost came on the hour mark against Sutton at the weekend when Damian Scannell found him with a precision cross from the left.

Forbes met it with a powerful point-blank header, only for Sutton's impressive keeper Phil Wilson to instinctively turn a potential equaliser over the bar.

That moment became the turning point of a slipshod afternoon for Eastleigh, who carelessly let their 100 per cent home record slip 2-1 against Sutton side who had travelled south without a win to their name.

"Forbesy's down in the dumps at the moment because he's not scoring, but he'll come good," said Doswell. "He always does.

"That header was a big moment in the game. We knew we had to come out in the second half and get a goal back, but it wasn't to be.

"We had no option but to come at them but, in doing that, you open yourselves up at the back".
