Manager Richard Hill admits there will be more “twists and turns” to come as Eastleigh boosted their Vanarama Conference play-off hopes with a 2-1 win at Welling United.

The boss hailed the character of his side after the important victory in London.

It puts the Spitfires sixth, two points off Forest Green Rovers in the final play-off berth, with a game in hand.

With four matches left, Hill confessed that the rollercoaster ride isn’t over just yet.

“It’s a big win,” admitted Hill, who served the last of a two-match touchline ban at Park View Road.

“If we hadn’t won today, looking at Forest Green winning, it probably would have given us a bit too much to do.

“Four games to go and we’re still in the hunt, it’s great.

“At the start of the season we dreamed of what could be.

“We just need make sure we’re there with three games to go.

“There will be a few twists and turns yet.”

It could have been a smoother ride for the Spitfires, but an offside decision in favour of the relegation threatened Wings resulted in Ben Jefford’s equaliser.

In turn, it meant that Hill’s side had to dust themselves down and battle hard for Jamie Turley’s winner late on.

“It’s not a nice place to come,” Hill said. “To have a game 48 hours after we got beaten at Welling is not one you’d choose.

“We should have gone in 1-0 up (at half-time), but I’ve seen today one of the worst offside decisions ever given.

“It wasn’t given, so we have to carry on.

“I thought we sulked a little bit when they equalised.

“The lads felt aggrieved by it ... we’ve conceded a goal through no fault of our own.

“It should have been a free-kick, but all of a sudden we’re defending a corner.”

Hill admits that Turley’s well taken winner could be decisive come the end of the campaign.

“It’s probably the biggest goal up until now, but next week there might be a bigger one,” he said.

“But at the moment that was probably the biggest goal of the season.”
