EASTLEIGH again shone under the Silverlake floodlights tonight as they pulled off their third Vanarama National League win in the space of eight sparkling days.

An efficient if unspectacular 2-0 victory over Bromley leaves them seventh, level on points with Dover, Braintree and Tranmere who occupy fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

Having given themselves the breathing space of first-half goals from Yemi Odubade and Jai Reason, the Spitfires lost their urgency after the break – but that was all part of the game plan.

“2-0‘s a tricky scoreline and I said we needed to be professional,” said manager Chris Todd.

“I said to make it as flat as possible second half to kill the game off – and we did that.”

Joe Partington, again made captain, laid on the only chance of a low-key opening, but Lee Cook’s shot was wayward.

It took another six minutes for the Spitfires to stir again, Odubade bustling past Ravens skipper Rob Swaine but ballooning his effort over.

Bromley’s first sight of goal took 15 minutes arriving, on-loan Stevenage winger Rohdell Gordon cutting inside and rifling over on the angle .

As things began to hot up on a chilly night, Odubade’s shot was blocked and Jamie Turley fired the loose ball over after a free kick had bounced loose off a Bromley body.

Barring a minor scare when Bradley Goldberg rounded Spitfires keeper Ross Flitney but ran out of options, it was suddenly all Eastleigh and, come the 32nd minute they were 2-0 up.

The 25th-minute opener owed much to the willing running of Odubade who outsprinted defender Jack Holland, blocked keeper Alan Julian’s attempted clearance and, in slow motion, the ball span behind and crept into the unguarded net.

Luke Coulson was crowded out when poised to add another, but the ex-Oxford City man soon turned provider instead.

Partington had the first stab as the ball arrived from the right and, having initially been thwarted, Reason slotted home at the second attempt.

With James Constable replacing the injured Turley for the second half, the versatile Coulson dropped to right-back while Partington joined Will Evans in central defence.

Reason sent a 25-yarder over and Odubade’s cross on the run was palmed away by Julian. Between times, Bromley’s Ali Fuseini – very briefly a Spitfire – blasted wide from 35 yards before another ex-Eastleigh man Moses Emmanuel entered the fray.

A spate of Bromley chances followed with Lee Minshull heading over and Adam Cunnington denied by Flitney.

But Eastleigh rode the mini storm and the only thing that wiped some gloss off a satisfying night's work was the sight of Will Evans hobbling off with a painful looking ankle injury.
