EASTLEIGH aim to stop another promotion-chasing side in their tracks at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

Having put the skids under Dover Athletic and Aldershot Town for back-to-back Vanarama National League wins, Andy Hessenthaler’s Spitfires now have fourth-placed Wrexham in their sights.

Unlike Eastleigh, the Welsh Dragons had a depressing Easter Monday, beaten 1-0 by Boreham Wood. It was their their first defeat in 17 games.

Meanwhile goals by Chris Zebroski and Paul McCallum ensured the Spitfires won the Hampshire derby 2-0 at Aldershot, taking them past the initial 50-point target set by Hessenthaler.

Eastleigh’s performance was arguably their best of the season and the boss hailed his players’ “grit, determination and quality.”

It was the first time they had partnered a clean sheet with a victory since August, but Hessenthaler said: “I’m just pleased we got the win and got past that 50-point barrier. We’ve now got to go and win the next one.

“We’ve still got a lot of say in this division (in promotion/relegation issues) and we’re not going to let the other teams down.

"We’re going to try and win the six games we’ve got left and finish the season on a high.”

The bonus on Monday was a late cameo appearance by left-back Michael Green after a lengthy spell out following an ankle operation.

“I'm pleased to have him back on the training ground and involved. I’m sure he’ll play a big part until the end of the season,” smiled Hessenthaler.

With some of the other top-bracket teams also losing on Monday, Wrexham boss Andy Davies felt his side's defeat by Boreham Wood was an "opportunity missed".

But he said: "We can't rely on others, it's got to be about ourselves and today in the first half we were nowhere near what we're about.

He added: "It could be kick that you need for us to revitalise ourselves again because we have been on a fantastic run."
