Foxes sign former Saints target Vardy
3:41pm Friday 18th May 2012 in Football League
Leicester have completed the signing of former Saints target Jamie Vardy from Fleetwood for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region £1m.
The 25-year-old striker, who Southampton were interested in last January, joins the Foxes on a three-year contract after firing the Cod Army to the Blue Square Bet Premier title with 34 goals this season and becomes the most expensive purchase from a non-league club.
Vardy becomes Nigel Pearson's third new signing this week, following Manchester United duo Ritchie De Laet and Matty James to the King Power Stadium.
Pearson told the club's official website: "There were a number of clubs vying to secure Jamie's signature, so it's very pleasing that we have been able to bring him to Leicester.
"He will definitely help to take us forward. He has built an excellent reputation for himself through the goals he has scored at non-league level and I have no doubt he will successfully make the step up to the Championship."
Vardy made his senior debut for Stocksbridge in 2007 before joining Halifax three years later. He strengthened his reputation with 27 goals that season before joining Fleetwood.
