Hampshire Premier League title chargers AFC Stoneham came back from two goals down to win 3-2 this afternoon against Winchester City Reserves in the Southampton Senior Cup at Elliot's Arena.

Adam Pullinger's outfit have booked a place in the last four of the competition after over-coming the Wessex Premier outfit's second string.

Luke Musselwhite netted just past the hour-mark before completing his brace with 12 minutes to play.

Stoneham, who struggled to find their feet early on, then scored the all-important winner as Dave Egerton curled a superb 30-yard free-kick into the top corner with seconds left to play.

"I am delighted to win the game against a resolute Winchester team, including many with first team experience," said Pullinger.

"The boys showed real character and determination to come back from two goals down to put us into the semi finals. "

Winchester dominated the early part of game but missed very good chances through Dan Spreadbury and Sam Burt.

As City's influence became apparent, Sam Whieldon, the young Stoneham keeper, pulled of a series of outstanding saves.

One saw him get down to make a reaction save at his feet and, then, a flying save to his right kept his side in it until the half hour.

Stoneham did create chances through Musselwhite , Callum Pragnell and the ever industrious captain John Cole.

Despite the entertainment the score remained goalless at the break.

After the interval Winch started brightly and took a two goal lead through Dan Spreadbury and Ryan Sanger, who are both also on Stoneham's books.

The game was starting to slip away from Stoneham until the 63rd minute when Shaun Weetch, the City keeper,  made a game changing error.

By failing to clear a ball at his feet he allowed man-of-the-match Musselwhite to disposess him and slot home to make it 2-1.

Debutant 17-year-old Matt Stupple , a product of the Stoneham youth system, was having an outstanding game whilst having an excellent battle with Winchester's main threat Sam Burt.

Cole started to make his quality tell while centre halves Melvin Rogers and Ben Clarke were composed at the back.

On 78 minutes, during a goalmouth scramble, Musselwhite was able to sneek a foot in and hit home to level the match.

The game was looking to be heading for extra time when Egerton stepped up to score an incredible 30-yard free-kick.
