Romsey Town Panthers U14s 5

Q K Southampton U14s 0

Romsey saved their best till last in the final league game of the division 2 season, a win that ensdured they were crowned league champions of Tyro Division 2.

Playing some good possession football, the side constantly probed the QK defence with efforts from Keone Williams,Sam Hoyland and Riley Allen, but unfortunately all were off target.

The Panthers finally opened the scoring with a great right foot shot from top scorer Keone Williams from six yards out.

The game turned when QK were reduced to ten men – having no substitutes, their centre back went off injured.

Right winger Mateus Janaway scored the second goal from outside the area.

His lofted drive shot beat the keeper and nestled into the bottom left-hand corner.

The Panthers went in at half time 3-0 up after a great left-wing creative display from Brad Stone.

He passed inside to central midfielder Brandon Lane, whose skill helped the ball onto Tim Crossland who in turn set up his strike partner Williams to score.

The game was over as a contest when QK went down to nine men with another injury, but Romsey still played in a professional manner with sterling work from the defensive trio of Jojo Jenner, Jack Crane and Jamie Kater.

Kater later went off injured after a really composed centre back display, and was replaced by Max Roberts, who slotted in very well.

Keeper James Hibbard kept another clean sheet with a great positional display, having only one save to make all game.

To cap a fine attacking game, Tim Crossland scored a superb goal from 10 yards out, beating the keeper and finding the bottom left hand corner with a fine low drive.

The fifth goal came from left winger Ollie Farrell’s good wing play.

After being played in by captain Sam Hoyland, Farrell’s pinpoint cross was beautifully put away by midfielder Riley Allen, whose deft flicked header gave the QK keeper no chance.

George Capps was a real live wire with his pace and creativity on the right wing when replacing Janaway.

Credit must go to QK, who kept playing despite the situation.

Special thanks from the team goes to head coach Andy Kater and goalkeeping coach Andy Clifford, club secretary Clare Crossland and Romsey Town youth chairman Phil Rowland, all of whom helped the boys achieve great success this season.
