For a side with the worst scoring record in the Conference South, netting three goals in 32 minutes was completely out of character for Easteigh on Saturday.

Yet midfielder David Hughes was not in the least surprised by the 3-1 win over Farnborough Town which has at last hauled the Spitfires out of the bottom three of the Nationwide Conference South.

"This result's been coming," the ex-Saint reflected.

"Since Doddsy (Jason Dodd) has been in charge, we haven't lost many games and those we have lost, we've lost for a reason.

"Steve West was sent off against Cambridge and, against Salisbury, we didn't start well.

"But all along we've been very solid at the back, so today we asked the question of whether the back five could withstand a bit more pressure to allow us to go with a more adventurous formation".

The answer was a resounding yes'.

With top scorer Andy Forbes and Darren Wheeler providing some much-needed width, the Spitfires ran Farnborough ragged for the first half-hour to score through Karim El-Salahi, Forbes and Steve Watts.
