Infinity manager Jody Hoare has ordered his side to “keep focused” as they look to win the Hampshire Premier League Division One crown on Saturday.

Hoare’s side stumbled on Easter Saturday as they were beaten 4-2 by Netley Central Sports.

That defeat blew the title race wide open with Netley just a point behind with two games to go.

However, Hoare’s side were back to their best 48 hours later when they ended Cadnam United’s title hopes with a 3-1 victory in the New Forest.

Tommy Stringer opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a superb lob and he got his second, and doubled the lead, ten minutes before the half as he slotted home a flicked ball by Leon Elliott.

Cadnam hit-back soon into the second period, but Sam Floyd ended any hopes of a comeback as he tucked away a free-kick on the edge of the box.

“On Saturday we didn’t play like how we know we can,” admitted Hoare. “But we were back to the Infinity I know against Cadnam.

“The nerves got to our performance on Saturday but we expressed ourselves on Monday, it was far more attacking.

“It was just more open, everyone just played to what they normally do.

“So it all comes down to the last game now.”

The final game of the season sees Infinity take on lowly Upham.

If they win, the title is theirs.

“After defeat on Saturday it was like we were the underdog,” Hoare said.

“And we started to play like an underdog, who is hungry for the title.

“Now we just need to keep focused and play like we know we can.

“We’re quietly confident, but we know that Upham can be decent.

“It’s ironic in a way that around four or five seasons ago we had to beat Upham to win the league we were in.

“Now, here we are again, having to beat Upham.”

Upham are fighting for their lives at the foot of the division.

Matters got worse for them on Monday when they were beaten and leapfrogged by fellow strugglers Andover Lions 3-1.
