NEW Blackfield & Langley signing Wayne Boud scored five minutes into his debut against Moneyfields, volleying home sweetly from a corner.

And though the ten-man Watersiders were pegged back by a Steve Hutchings leveller in the second half, manager Glenn Burnett felt a 1-1 Sydenhams Premier draw was an heroic effort from a side decimated by injury, sickness and suspension.

“It was a great point for where we are at the moment,” he said. “I’ve never seen an injury list like it in all my life.

“We’ve lost Gibbo and Taz (Kev Gibbens and Adam Roberts), both to a broken foot, and TJ Cuthbertson’s out for four weeks after injuring his knee against Sholing.

“We had no Scott Sampson or Alex Baldacchino either today, Michael Durdey was out suspended, Joe Byrne pulled a hamstring and Mike Byrne was throwing up at half-time and had to come off.

“Jack Smith pulled up in the warm-up and couldn’t start, but we had no option but to put him on when Mike (Byrne) was taken ill.”

Smith didn’t finish the game either – sent off for what was deemed to be a dangerous aerial challenge.

“We’ve had five players sent off this season and I think only one’s been a red card offence,” said Burnett. “Jack hasn’t led with his arm or anything today and even their guys said they’d expect their players to go for the header the same as Jack did.

“Given all the disruption, it was an amazing point for us. I’m not going to say we were the better side - we weren’t. If I’m honest, they were in total control of the second half, but we got men behind the ball and defended brilliantly.

“For what we had on the pitch today, I’m really proud of them, and it was a great volley from Wayne Boud on his debut after signing from Fareham.”
