DANNY Bowers said there were only two good things to come out of Saturday’s Sydenhams Premier trip to Fawley AFC – Folland Sports’ first ever victory at Long Lane under his charge and a hat-trick for the hard-working Ryan Long.

“It’s the worst I’ve seen us play,” admitted Bowers after the Planemakers had dredged up a 3-1 victory from the most unappealing of games.

“I’ve been to Fawley with fantastic sides over the years and I’ve been there with good sides, but that’s the first time I’ve ever got anything out of the place.

“We were the better side on Saturday, but we were awful and the only good things to come out of it were three points and Ryan Long’s three goals.”

Having fallen behind when they failed to cut out a cross, allowing Matt Vining to pounce, Follands replied with the first of three quality finishes from Long.

Following neat build-up play with Jamie Barron, Long received a threaded pass from the skipper, feigned to shoot and, as the ’keeper went down, calmly chipped it over him.

“All three goals from Ryan were quality,” said Bowers. “For the second, the ’keeper’s come for a long ball and Ryan’s lobbed him from 30 yards. And, for the third, the ball’s been switched across and he’s volleyed one in from 25 yards.

“It’s just reward for Ryan. No one works harder than him. If we had 11 Ryan Longs we’d win the league hands down.”

Follands tonight entertain Moneyfields in the Sydenhams League Cup third round.

The Planemakers have already edged the Money men 2-1 in the league at Folland Park, but Bowers said: “They’re the best team we’ve played, the best footballing side in the league. I know they have their disciplinary problems, but it always amazes me how they’re not up there fighting for the championship.”
