Sholing’s FA Vase hero Lee Wort has told the club he will soon be having a trial with League Two club Accrington Stanley.
Wort will be linking up with ex-Saints ace James Beattie, the Stanley manager, during his week’s trial later this month, writes PETER HOWARD.
Wort bagged more than 50 goals as the Boatmen won the FA Vase and were crowned champions of the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division last season.
He told the club last month that he was keen on a move away from the Silverlake Arena if the right offer came his way as he eyes a professional career.
The 22-year-old attacker has now told the club that he will leave for the Football League club for a trial from July 24.
Wort is currently away on holiday with fellow Boatmen Barry and Byron Mason and is said to be keen to re-sign for Sholing if the trial proves unsuccessful at the Crown Ground.
Co-manager Mick Marsh said: “If there’s an opportunity for one of our players to better themselves then I’m all for it.
“It is the Sholing way to not stand in the way of players.
“We develop them and if they get an opportunity like this, then why not.”
