ROB Tambling rediscovered last season’s ‘goalden’ touch as newly-promoted Petersfield Town reeled off their fourth straight Sydenhams Premier Division victory, beating Christchurch 4-0 at Love Lane.

With 40 goals netted, ex-Gosport striker Tambling played a huge part in getting Petersfield promoted as Division One champions and his scoring instincts kicked in once again on Saturday.

Having headed home a 13th-minute opener following a string of corners, he almost struck again moments later when Brad Miles knocked a cross down into his path, but Priory ’keeper Paul Roast blocked with his legs.

Miles was then denied by a terrific one-handed save by former Wimborne defender Roast and Petersfield’s Warren Hunt had a goal disallowed.

But the Rams finally doubled their lead eight minutes into the second half when Tambling latched onto Alex Lowley’s pass and held off two defenders before firing home.

The in-form marksman completed his hat-trick on the hour, picking up the ball on the left and taking Hunt’s return pass before rounding the ’keeper and finding the empty net.

The Rams went down to ten men when Lowley was shown a straight red for what was deemed to be a dangerous tackle.

Undeterred, they hit the crossbar through Phil Archbold before, in the final minute, sub Andy Todd headed in unmarked.

Petersfield – one of five teams tied on 16 points at the Sydenhams Premier summit – entertain Bournemouth Poppies in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup this evening.
