HAMBLE Club became the first Hampshire Premier League club to take a point off reigning champions Baffins Milton Rovers.

Luke Watts scored the only goal in the 17th minute as Hamble, promoted as runners-up from the second tier last season, ended the Portsmouth side’s 100 per cent start to their title defence.

Baffins had belted 54 goals in winning their opening 11 games, but Hamble now have them in their sights after their ninth win in 10 matches.

If Hamble won their two games in hand, they would be level on points with Rovers – but would need to close a plus 26 goal difference between the two teams to take over top spot.

Sam Adams belted a hat-trick as AFC Stoneham closed the gap on Baffins to three points with a 6-1 thrashing of QK Southampton.

Adams scored in the 57th, 65th and 88th minutes, with Tom King (2) and Luke Musselwhite also on target. Nathaniel Lynch had levelled King’s opener on 13 minutes.

Richard McCann was another three-goal hero as lowly Headley thumped fourth placed Otterbourne 4-0.

He struck all his goal in the first half - in the 9th, 22nd and 39th minutes - before Dave Preston added a late fourth.

Rock bottom Liss claimed their second win of the season, beating Stockbridge 2-1 thanks to Dave Gleeson’s 85th minute winner.
