WINCHESTER City enjoyed the perfect build-up to Saturday’s big FA Cup date at Concord Rangers.

They managed to rest 11 first-team players but still triumph 4-2 at Alresford Town in the North Hants Senior Cup tonight.

It was quite a senior debut for 17-year-old reserve team graduate Rhian Otero who bagged City’s first and third, both close-range headers.

Chris Manning and John Borg were also on target for Winchester, while Dan Strange and Jack Hoey got the Mapgies’ replies.

“It’s been a good night,” said co-boss Danny Robinson. “It was important to see how good the fringe players were, we’ve come through injury-free and we’ll have a nice light training session on Thursday before the Concord game.

“We’ve got a clean bill of health bar Adam Tomasso who’s touch and go with knee ligaments.”

City now know they will entertain Horndean in the FA Vase first round proper on November 1.

After being held 1-1 at home by Lymington Town after extra time on Saturday, the Deans went goal crazy in this evening's replay, winning 5-0 through Lewis Stockford, Mark Smith, Nathan Paxton, Gavin Spurway and Harry Potter.

With Petersfield held 0-0 at home by league leaders Moneyfields, Newport IoW are up to second in the Sydenhams Premier after a 4-1 home win over Bournemouth Poppies. Scott Jones (2), Matt Evans and Aidan Sainsbury put Port four up before Dan Molyneaux replied.

Blackfield & Langley found their shooting boots to see off Hamworthy United 4-2 at Gang Warily. Ekow Elliott sank a hat-trick and Michael Durdey converted a penalty.

John Robson’s Watersiders are sixth, two places above Bemerton Heath who beat Fareham Town 3-0.

A 13th minute strike by ex-Eastleigh and Winchester striker Chris Flood sent Basingstoke Town top of the Conference South with a 1-0 win over Whitehawk. It was Flood’s eighth goal of the season.

Southern Premier leaders Poole Town scored all three goals in the opening 15 minutes to beat Truro City 3-0 at Tatnam. Luke Burbidge got the first two and Steve Devlin crowned victory with an incredible strike from the halfway line.
