SHOLING required penalties to book their ticket to the Hampshire FA Cup semi-finals at Lymington Town last night.
The windy conditions dictated play with Sam Roberts firing the Sydenhams underdogs ahead after 12 minutes.
Sholing finally made their second-half superiority count eight minutes from time when Dan Mason was fouled and brother Barry converted from the spot to level 1-1.
The tie went straight to a shoot-out which Sholing dominated 4-1 with Kev Brewster, Byron Mason, Nick Watts and Barry Mason all notching and ’keeper Rory Anderson pulling off two saves.
“It was two wind-assisted halves of football. Lymington had a lot of the first half and we had a lot of the second. The game could have gone either way,” admitted Sholing boss Dave Diaper.
“Their ’keeper made some good saves and I didn’t think we were going to get back into it.
“Lymington’s not an easy place to come and they did themselves proud tonight working hard to close us down.”
Farnborough joined Conference South rivals Gosport in the semi-finals by beating Sydenhams outfit Whitchurch 2-0 at Cherrywood Road.
Amadeu Arnau Casana gave ’Boro a half-time lead which Louie Theophanus doubled late on.
