FORMER Eastleigh and Winchester City striker Chris Flood shook up the Vanarama Conference South title race on Saturday by netting a hat-trick against league leaders Boreham Wood.
Flood’s treble capped a dream performance by Basingstoke Town who also struck through Liam Enver-Marum as they came away from Hertfordshire handsome 4-0 winners.
Wood included new signing Daryl McMahon, the former Eastleigh skipper, in their starting line-up.
Basingstoke are up to third in the table, two points clear of Havant & Waterlooville who lost 2-0 at second-placed Bromley (Jack Holland, Ali Fuseini).
Sixth-placed Gosport, meanwhile, staged a rousing fightback to rescue a 2-2 draw at home to Ebbsfleet United.
An Adam Cunnington brace for the visitors was cancelled out by ex-Saint Matt Paterson’s 20th goal of the season and a superb 30-yarder from Dan Wooden.
Gosport could even have won it late on, but Justin Bennett’s free-kick struck the crossbar.
