HAMWORTHY United boss Shane Traynor admitted killer instinct had proved the difference after Bemerton Heath Harlequins’ 3-1 triumph at the County Ground.

Bemerton have been going through a rough time of it since news of manager Ian Chalk’s imminent departure went public – their 6-0 thrashing at Winchester City the previous week making it six straight Sydenhams Premier defeats for the nose-diving Wiltshire outfit.

But goals by Scott Joyce (2) and Graham Mankin put them 3-0 up in Dorset before substitute Sam Carr nodded in the Hammers’ consolation.

Traynor praised the general display of his side but felt they were lacking in front of goal.

“Bemerton were more clinical than we were,” he said.

“Their keeper made two exceptional saves in one-on-one situations.

“They took their chances and we didn’t, but I can’t fault the performance.

“It was quite an end-to-end game and Bemerton did a job. Fair play to them, they deserved to win.”

Chalk, in his eighth season in charge of the Harlequins, is leaving at the end of the season.

Ex-Christchurch and Winchester City boss Graham Kemp, former Alresford Town co-manager Danny Robinson and ex-Downton boss Jeff Softley have all been linked with the vacancy.
