FORMER AFC Bournemouth striker Alan Connell is understood to be on the verge of signing for Southern Premier title hopefuls Poole Town.

The 32-year-old forward has more than 300 Football League appearances to his name, including 104 for the Dean Court club.

Connell played 44 times for the Bradford side that won promotion from League Two and reached the League Cup final in 2013 and featured for the Bantams in League One as recently as April 2014.

The Penn Hill-based frontman began last season at Grimsby in the top flight of non-League football before linking up with ex-Cherries boss Lee Bradbury at Havant & Waterlooville where he endured an injury-blighted campaign.

He was restricted to nine starts and a total of 20 appearances for the Hawks.
