DAN Demkiv has been snapped up by Salisbury after being let go from the Saints academy.

The Bath-born attacker, 18, was released from St Mary’s last month at the end of his two-year scholarship along with teammates Mark Irvine, Niall Mason and Chris Regis.

Demkiv, who can play as an advanced midfielder or out wide, is just the sort of bright, young talent Salisbury boss Steve Claridge is looking for as he bids to lift the newly-formed Whites straight out of the Sydenhams Premier Division next season.

“Dan is quick and skilful and we welcome him to the club,” said Claridge.

“He is a talent and I think he is only going to get better in the group we are assembling.”

Also new in at the Ray Mac is Salisbury lad Brandon Mundy , who played for Frome Town in the Southern Premier Division last term having previously been with Forest Green Rovers’ academy.

Full-back Munday, who has also spent time dual-signed at Wessex League outfit Downton, wore the Frome shirt on 77 occasions, scoring three times.

“He is hard to catch,” said Claridge. “He passes the ball well and works hard – just what we need.”

With midfielder Sam Roberts and striker Lamar Powell already on board and seven more signings in the pipeline, Claridge is pleased with his summer’s work so far.

“We have exceeded expectations and I hope these players, as well as the ones we will also be announcing soon, will excite supporters,” he said.

“What pleases me is that these players are coming here for the right reasons.

“Most are taking a pay cut because they want to be part of something new.

“They want to be part of a club on the up with a lot to offer.

“People outside may look at Salisbury FC and our potential fan base and think we are paying silly wages.

“I can assure everyone that is most certainly not the case and we have even lost out on certain targets who have gone to other Wessex League clubs for much more money than we are offering – and I mean a LOT more.

“We will do things our way, sensibly and sustainably, but still be competitive as we find our feet at what is a new league and a new level for us.”
