WHITCHURCH United manager Carl Bennett says star man Danny Phillips will be a Jam Boy this season - despite the striker agreeing a move to Sydenhams Premier rivals Blackfield & Langley.

Phillips, who bagged 26 goals during United’s last campaign, looked set to be playing his football for the promotion-hungry Watersiders after informing Bennett he was off to Gang Warily.

However, Bennett claims the skilful, Southampton-based frontman has agreed to return to Whitchurch and will be signed on at the club before the start of the new season, writes James Robinson.

“Danny is staying with us this season," he stated.

“When he told me he had moved to Blackfield I was disappointed but he went with our wishes.

“He texted me the other day to say he wanted to play for us this year and so we are just in the process of sorting out the paperwork.

“He’ll be with us by the start of the season.”

One player who will be swapping Longmeadow for the Gang Warily, however, is goalkeeper Brad Snelling, who had a brief stint at Winchester City last term.

Bennett said of the former Romsey Town stopper: “In my eyes he is the best goalkeeper in the league.

“They (Blackfield) have done well there.

“We are in the process of sorting a replacement.”
