WINCHESTER City have confirmed the signing of Jamie Brown ahead of tomorrow's (Wednesday, 7.45pm) big Southern One South & West showdown at home to Salisbury.

The 34-year-old Southampton-based midfielder brings with him a wealth of higher-league experience with Dorchester, Eastleigh, Gosport Borough - where he was captain - and Basingstoke Town and is renowned for his never-say-die attitude.

City’s director of football Dave Malone said: “Browner is an experienced and talented player.

“He will add a very competitive edge to our team and we welcome him to the Denplan.”

Brown’s arrival coincides with the double departure of midfielder Micky Hubbard and frontline triallist Rudy Plummer.

“Rudy has done well during pre-season but was unlikely to feature in our league season,” Malone explained.

“Micky Hubbard has been a very influential member of our side over the past couple of seasons but, with the signing of Jamie Brown, he was not likely to get as much first-team action as his ability deserves.

"We thank both players and wish them well for the future.”

While Winchester kicked off the new campaign with a disappointing 5-3 defeat at Slimbridge on Saturday, promoted Wessex champions Salisbury announced their arrival in the South & West by beating Evesham United 1-0 at the Ray Mac.

Manager Steve Claridge welcomed in a trio of new faces – Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, Will Britt and Kieran Parcelle.

All three are loanees - Oxlade-Chamberlain, 18-year-old brother of Arsenal’s ex-Saint Alex, joins from Portsmouth, goalkeeper Britt from Southampton and defender Parcelle from Newport County.

Britt, 21, signed for Saints as a 16-year-old from Brighton and picked up an FA Youth Cup winners' medal with Norwich City while on work experience at Carrow Road.

Salisbury have signed him to replace another loanee 'keeper, Charlie Searle, who unexpectedly returned to his parent club Havant & Waterlooville, penning a two-year contract.

Admission tomorrow is £8 adults, £6 concessions and free for under-16s.
