THE magic of the FA cups lives on for Alresford Town.

Having already made history by reaching the FA Cup second qualifying round for the first time, the Magpies progressed in the FA Vase with a 5-1 defeat of Chippenham Park on Saturday.

Alresford conceded early but quickly levelled through Harry Davies and, come half-time, Aaron Blaxall had made it 2-1.

It stayed that way until the closing minutes when subs Steve Hall (2) and Tom Sands (scorer of 54 goals for Otterbourne last season) applied some gloss to the scoreline.

“They were a good side, but we took our chances well,” said manager Richard Luffman. “It’s nice having Tom Sands back from three weeks away travelling, it gives us our main goal threat back.”

Alresford are at home to Cadbury Heath in the FA Cup this Saturday, but they won’t be encountering the Western Premier outfit in the Vase.

Cadbury crashed out 4-2 at Cowes Sports after extra-time on Saturday, meaning Alresford will be Isle of Wight-bound in the second qualifying round on September 24.

Team Solent squeezed past Hythe & Dibden (Seun Olabiyi) 2-1 thanks to Lewis Pitts and a stoppage-time Jamel Wiseman decider to book a trip to Hallen.

"We played quite well, but we missed sitter after sitter and then somehow won it with the last kick," said Solent boss James Taylor.

Hallen were pushed all the way by Fawley AFC, but it was the Bristol-based hosts who triumphed 3-2.

Dan Semmens and sub Zac Willis scored for the Oilers, who included new signing Mitch Hunt from AFC Totton in their starting XI.

Hamworthy United let slip a two-goal lead in a 5-3 Vase exit to Sydenhams Premier rivals Amesbury Town.

A remarkable four-goal haul by Amesbury sub Josh Stockwell and a strike by Cameron Roach – son of AFC Bournemouth Academy boss Joe - saw off the Hammers who had earlier taken command through Steve Smith (2) and Matt Morris.

Next up for Amesbury is a second qualifying round trip to Southern Premier rivals Whitchurch who ousted Laverstock & Ford 3-1 at Longmeadow.

A Danny Phillips brace and a Craig Smith header saw the Jam Boys safely through, aided by another star performance from goalkeeper Lewis Watch.

Lymington Town lost 4-0 at Oldland Abbotonians.

Oldland now travel to Horndean who overwhelmed New Milton 5-1 through Joe Richardson (2), Mark Smith, Ryan Thomas and Rob Tambling.

AFC Stoneham will host Hellenic Premier outfit Longlevans after seeing off Malmesbury Victoria 3-0 at the Elliotts Arena through Sergio Caballero, Chris Manning and sub Andy Turner.

Tadley Calleva were well beaten 5-1 at Thame United and US Portsmouth reached the end of the Vase road 1-0 at Corsham.

It was curtains too for Folland Sports (Liam Nolan), who exited 2-1 at Westbury, and Andover New Street, beaten 3-1 by Gillingham Town after extra time.

Relieved boss Ollie Cherrett admitted Christchurch had been put through the FA Vase wringer by lower league Swanage Town & Herston.

The Dorset Premier visitors led 1-0 thanks to Joe Clarke’s looping 18-yard header, but a Luke Stone brace edged Priory a 2-1 victory.

“I have to take my hat off to Swanage because they were superb and represented their league extremely well,” said Cherrett.

Christchurch’s reward is an all-Sydenhams One home tie against Romsey Town on Saturday week (September 24).

Romsey progressed 3-0 against Western One side Warminster. Craig Bryant headed the Bypass boys in front and Will Harris and Dan Fox joined him on the scoresheet.

AFC Portchester had to wait until the dying minutes to add the finishing touches to a 3-0 victory over Holyport.

Having seized a first-half lead with a Nathan Kirby header, they added late goals from Curt Robbins and sub Luke Sweeney to book a second qualifying round trip to Hellenic Premier side Lydney Town.

Bemerton Heath hammered neighbours Downton 7-0 at Western Way.

Jack Slade (3) led the rout, backed by Scott Joyce (2), Jack Lovell and Sam Griffin. Graham Kemp’s men now host Longwell Green Sports.
