WINCHESTER City have this evening announced the return of popular midfielder Jamie Barron to the Denplan City Ground.

A key cog in the Winchester side that reached the Southern One South & West play-offs and the Hampshire FA Senior Cup final last term, Barron stepped up two levels to join National League South outfit Gosport Borough soon after the start of this season.

Gosport, though, have endured well-publicised financial difficulties and Barron, along with another former Winchester player Chris Flood, have both departed the Aerial Direct Stadium this week.

A Winchester City statement said: "We are delighted to announce that we have tonight agreed terms to bring Jamie Barron back to the club.

"Jamie has cancelled his contract at Gosport Borough and, subject to League and FA approval, will be in our squad for our game at Bideford on Saturday.

"Welcome back Baz!!"

Barron, who originally joined Winchester from Folland Sports, made ten appearances for Gosport, scoring two goals.

He and Flood have followed goalkeeper Martin Rice in quitting Borough.

Gosport have signed former Portsmouth and Exeter keeper Nick Jordan.
