WINCHESTER City will be without 24-goal top gun Craig Feeney for tomorrow’s (Tuesday, December 27, 3pm) home game against Wimborne Town in the Southern One South & West.

Feeney, who is away for Christmas, will be a significant loss to the Citizens as they look to bring the curtain down on 2016 with their seventh consecutive league and cup victory.

The former Totton & Eling and AFC Totton marksman signed off for the year with a four-goal salvo against Slimbridge last Wednesday and, although manager Ian Saunders will miss him today, he is confident the in-form No9 has more goals in his locker for the new year.

“That man Feeney's on fire at the moment,” he said.

“That’s 24 goals he’s got now – not a bad return playing in a side that’s been in the lower reaches of the league. Long may it continue.

“I’ve set no targets for Craig, but to get as many as he has before Christmas is good achievement.

“There will eventually be a dip, but that’s the nature of this level.”

Stuart Green took a knock last Wednesday, but the skipper and midfielder should hopefully feature in a City squad set to welcome back Robbie Matthews, Andy Jenkinson, Matt Evans, Taz Roberts and Jamie Ford.

“Jason Silver had ten minutes against Slimbridge after eight weeks out with calf and hamstring injuries, so all of a sudden we’ve got a strong-looking squad,” said Army man Saunders, whose troops have marched up to mid-table.

City are a point better off than Wimborne, who tailed off after a superb start to the season but are beginning to find their feet again.

“We’re expecting a really tough game against a Wimborne side that has picked up again recently,” said Saunders.

The visitors' dangerman is ex-Dorchester striker Toby Holmes who bagged his 21st goal of the season in Wimborne's last outing – a 3-0 home win over Barnstaple.
