HAMBLE Club boast a seriously impressive statistic heading into tomorrow’s big Sydenhams One showdown at US Portsmouth (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

According to “The Bootiful Game’ website, the Monks’ impressive average return of 2.70 points per game is the best of any non-League side in the country from Step One (the National League) through to Step 6 (Sydenhams One) level.

The league leaders kept up the good work on Saturday as first-half goals from Wayne O’Dell and Mike Byrne (penalty) secured a 2-0 win over Weymouth Reserves, opening up a ten-point gap over second-placed Baffins Milton Rovers who lost a 4-3 thriller at Shaftesbury.

They could widen that gap tomorrow, but US Portsmouth have hit impressive form themselves having gone 14 games unbeaten.

“We’re having a good season and we’ve got a bit of a cushion at the top, but the lads aren’t taking it for granted,” said co-boss Ben Kneller.

“After leading for all this time, it would be nice to win the league, but it’s far from done yet.

“We’re top of the form guide for the last 15 games and US Portsmouth are second. We drew 2-2 with them at our place and we expect another tough game.

“They’s got a lad, Harry Jackson, who’s banged in ten goals in seven games for them and he goes out with my other half’s sister! They’re both coming to watch tomorrow instead of going for a Valentine’s dinner!”

Regarding the 'The Bootiful Game' website, Kneller said: "I don't know who the geeks are behind it, but we all follow it on Twitter. It's nice to be top across the whole country.

"It would have been nicer still if we hadn't lost two league games, but we've got to be realistic. It's a competitive league."
