BLACKFIELD & Langley will be keeping close tabs on events at Sholing tomorrow evening (Tuesday), praying for Sydenhams Premier leaders Moneyfields to drop points.

The second-placed Watersiders were not at their best beating Bournemouth Poppies 2-1 at Gang Warily on Saturday but, with Moneys’ game at Team Solent postponed, the gap at the top is down to four points.

It was the Watersiders’ eighth straight league win and all they can do is try and keep that run of form going while hoping that the Moneys machine breaks down.

Blackfield’s first-team coach James Ford said: “Our thoughts are to try and go to the end of the season unbeaten.

“We can’t affect what Moneyfields do, we can only keep winning games and put the pressure on them. It’s all about seeing if they can hold their nerve.

“Football’s a funny game – you get suspensions, a bit of bad luck, and you never know what might happen.”

Goals by new signing Harry Jackson and ex-Saint Jamie White put Blackfield in control on Saturday before Kevin Foreman hit back for the Poppies.

“It wasn’t a great game of football from either side,” said Ford. “We’ve hit a decent patch of form at the moment, but we didn’t play particularly well.

“The positives were that a few new faces like Mike Turvey and Harry Jackson got 90 minutes.

“Midfielder Tom Hill also played 70-75 minutes after replacing Manny Soetan who got injured setting up the first goal.

“Tom was with Bashley and Brockenhurst and came to us a couple of years ago. He’d been out injured with an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury and aggravated it in pre-season. It’s a big positive to see him back.”

Blackfield are back in action this Saturday at Bemerton Heath.
