DAN Williamson has left Winchester City to join Swindon Supermarine’s new venture in the Southern Premier Division.

Williamson, who followed City boss Craig Davis down from Fleet Town, impressed in the first half of last season playing in the right-back role.

But the emergence of young Joe Hayward meant Williamson was deployed further forward in the latter part of the season, giving him less of an opportunity in his favoured position.

Manager Davis said: “It was with a heavy heart that we had to lose Willo.

“I have had a great couple of years with him personally.

“He was good for us, but Joe Hayward pushed him out of his right-back spot in the latter part of the season and we moved him further forward and he was not quite as effective.

“However, he has gone on to a higher league and I can never begrudge anyone making an upward step, which is what he has done in terms of league status.

"I am proud of anyone I work with who develops their career.”

Supermarine finished fifth in the Evo-Stik South West last term, 13 points better off than 11th-placed Winchester – and were promoted via the play-offs after beating Wimborne Town on penalties.

Also leaving Winchester is defender Adam Tomasso, who has joined Southern League new boys Blackfield & Langley, the promoted champions of the Sydenhams Wessex League.

"Adam was under contract at WCFC, but at the end of the season we decided against taking up our option to renew it," the club's director of football Dave Malone explained.

"We did make what we considered to be a realistic offer to Adam, but he has decided against accepting and joined Blackfield. You might draw your own conclusions as to the reasons why.

"When we took control of the Club in 2013, Adam was one of the first players we signed. Since that time he has been a honest and committed player - and a pleasure to work with. We wish him well."

*Salisbury, who clinched the second automatic promotion spot from the Evo-Stik South West, are busy strengthening their squad.

The Whites have agreed terms with ex-Worthing striker/wide player George Barker as their first acquisition for the new campaign.

Barker has had Football League experience with Brighton & Hove Albion, Barnet, Newport County, Tranmere Rovers and Swindon Town, and joins the Whites from Bostik League club Worthing.

He previously spent one season at Gosport Borough and two at Havant & Waterlooville.
