Saints legend Rickie Lambert netted for Liverpool in their 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League this afternoon.
Lambert is a hero at St Mary's having scored vitals goals as Saints were promoted to, and became established in, the Premier League.
The 32-year-old left for his boyhood heroes last summer with Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren, in a well documented exodus from Southampton.
But he has found his chances limited with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers insisting on using Lambert as a late substitute.
That has meant, in the 17 games at the Anfield club, he has started just five and scored three.
Once more, Lambert was introduced deep into the second half. This time he came on for Fabio Borini, the scorer of Liverpool's first goal.
Just eight minutes after coming on, he slammed home from inside the box on 79 minutes.
Liverpool sit in seventh after that win while Saints can move further ahead of them if they beat Newcastle in today's late kick off.
