FOOTBALL is a funny old game – and Sholing’s 0-0 draw at Horndean tonight proved it.

With 31-goal striker Dan Mason joined by newly-signed hotshots Lee Wort and Zach Glasspool, the Boatmen had all the ingredients for a goal feast.

Instead they slogged out their first goalless stalemate of the Sydenhams Premier Division season.

Both sides struggled to create much in driving rain and wind at Five Heads Park where defences were well on top.

Wort went close in the opening five minutes with a shot that fizzed just wide, while ex-Winchester man Glasspool had an effort well gathered.

Horndean gave their man-of-the-match award to former Folland Sports, Team Solent and Salisbury defender Matt Burt. The Boatmen's went to skipper Byron Mason.

Sholing, still fifth, travel to second-placed Blackfield & Langley on Saturday, while the Deans entertain Fawley AFC.

Tonight's other SWL Premier Division game ended 2-2 between Moneyfields and Whitchurch United.
