SHOLING’s youthful side hit back for a 2-1 Sydenhams Premier win over Whitchurch United at the Silverlake Arena on Saturday.

With manager Dave Diaper resting several senior players, Sholing’s inexperienced backline was caught off-guard by Dave Parry’s 14th-minute header from a corner.

It was only the second goal the Boatmen have conceded at home in the league in 2016 and came against the run of play.

The home side responded by launching a barrage of shots and on 25 minutes their pressure told.

Zach Glasspool held the ball up and audaciously back-heeled into the path of Jake Hoole who was chopped down inside the area.

Top gun Dan Mason stepped up to the spot and sent keeper Brad Snelling the wrong way for his 36th goal of the season.

It was the introduction of two second-half substitutes that led to Sholing’s 84th-minute winner.

The experienced Kevin Brewster delivered, Mason flicked on at the near post and, after the ball had rebounded off the bar, young Kieran Winman was on hand to bury his first goal for the club in only his second appearance.

The game ended on a sour note, however, when former Winchester City marksman Glasspool saw red for a second booking.

After cramming five games into ten days, fourth-placed Sholing will be grateful of a midweek break before hosting bottom club Folland Sports on Saturday.

There will be free entry for the Boatmen’s youth and women players wearing a club top and a free scarf for the first 100 fans through the turnstile.
