FAST-STARTING Dan Mason took just 65 seconds to get Sholing off the mark in Saturday’s 3-0 Sydenhams Premier win over Fareham Town.

The Boatmen came flying out of the blocks and, after Mason had found the bottom corner, his brother Byron almost doubled the lead two minutes later, but his header from Kev Brewster’s free-kick was parried clear.

The second goal finally arrived on 25 minutes when Byron Mason tapped home after Jake Hoole’s deflected effort had committed the goalkeeper.

Fareham came into it before half-time with Simon Woods’ effort turned onto the post by Sholing No1 Ryan Gosney and Matt Andrews and Ash Tattersall firing wide.

But Hoole ensured there was no coming back for the visitors, capitalising on neat play by Byron Mason to make it 3-0 on 50 minutes.

Sholing travel to AFC Portchester in the Sydenhams League Cup second round tomorrow (Tuesday).
