MITCH Wade continued his 23-year love affair with the match table at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club by claiming a third Tuesday Singles League play-off title.

The 32-year-old’s precision break building yielded runs of 50 and 62 in a 25-minute 2-0 victory over Steve Tonks in the Series 4 final.

Earlier, Wade, who turns out for Super League champions Eastleigh Railway Institute C, had recorded 30-plus breaks in each of his four frames in the quarter-finals and last-four.

“It’s nice to make big breaks when it matters – and I think I did that tonight,” he said. “If I was offered two 50s in a final, I’d take that any day of the week.”

Wade first played on Table 1 at the age of nine in the Saturday morning junior leagues.

“This and the window table at the Railway are MY tables,” he insisted.

“I’ve got 23 years of experience on this table (at Chandler’s Ford). I know the cushions and rolls by now so I feel pretty comfortable on here.”

Despite having now won three of the four play-offs, Wade, who pocketed £100 prize money, maintains he’s still hungry for more.

“I really enjoy the practice and the crack with the lads,” he explained.

“For as long as I’m allowed out (by wife Jen and two-year-old son Alex) to come and play on a Tuesday night, I’ll be up here.

“It speaks volumes for this tournament that we’re getting the likes of Paul Naismith, Dave Mumford and Danny Gallant playing in it.”

Turning to the Railway’s hopes of retaining the Super League crown, he added: “We don’t want to be classed as one-season wonders.

“We’ve got a slightly bigger squad this season so there’s every chance of seeing us up there again. It’s going to be a three-horse race this season (with Churchills A and Chandlers Ford Central A).”

A new scratch league kicks off at 8pm on Tuesday. The top eight after ten weeks then play-off for a share of the prize money. For more details, ring 023 8025 4834.
