Trojans ended Banbury’s 100 per cent start to the South League Premier Division 2 campaign – and now they must do it again when table topping Henley come calling to Stoneham Lane on Saturday, 1.30pm.

Newly promoted Trojans held free-scoring Banbury 1-1 – a result which Stoneham talisman Ian Bassett considered “a fair reflection” of the game.

Trojans enjoyed the upper hand in the first half and, but for an uncharacteristic miss by James Watts, would have had more than Eddie Evans’s penalty corner conversion to show for their efforts.

But Banbury, who had scored 35 times in their previous five matches, pinned Trojans back after the break, forcing goalkeeper Steve Cole to use all his experience and make a series of fine saves.

Banbury weren’t to be denied and Harry Loxton’s equaliser – his 15th of the season – earned the Oxfordshire visitors a deserved share of the spoils.

“They were the best side we’ve played so far,” Bassett added.

“Now we can test ourselves against Henley, who went top with a 6-1 win over Tunbridge Wells.”
