A late Vicky Field equaliser earned Fareham a 2-2 draw and denied Andover victory from the South Women’s League Division 3B Hampshire derby at John Hanson.

Andover looked likely winners when Lizzie Vincent fired home a short corner from the top of the D with only five minutes remaining.

But Fareham penned Andover back in their own 23 and equalised through Field in a goalmouth scramble with just two minutes to go.

Mid-table Andover had broken the stalemate in the second half through Bel Penfound, but the evergreen Maggie Kinder fired Fareham’s equaliser ten minutes later after a superb run by Field.

The draw edged Fareham closer to safety, while Southampton’s ten-match wait for a win ended emphatically when they thrashed basement side Barnes 9-0 at the Sports Centre.

The victory – a first since they won 1-0 on Thames-side back in late October – has opened up a three-point gap between Southampton and Guildford, whose visit to the SC on Saturday week will probably decide who is relegated alongside Barnes.

The nine-goal romp against winless Barnes has given Southampton a ‘plus-14’ bonus over the Surrey club.

A Lou Hopkins hat-trick led the Southampton goal spree, Sue Merry (penalty) and teenager Ellie Streather scoring either side of their captain to give the city side a 3-0 interval lead.

Southampton scored at will after the break, with Hopkins (2), Streather, Nelia Bekker, Saff Hart and Jenny Wagstaff completing the rout.
