Hampshire martial arts expert Trevor Birmingham has climbed to world number three in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Romsey-based Birmingham has as considerable success since taking up the sport more than four years ago.

His campaign for greatness gained new momentum recently with a gold at the European Open Championships, topping an incredible few months for the experienced fighter.

The trainer at Exile Gym in Shirley claimed the World Championship belt in the USA in the GI division before claiming silver in the NO GI class in one red letter day.

But, as previously reported, Birmingham’s ambitions extend further than that.

The self-confessed fitness junkie jetted off to Lisbon, Portugal recently and returned to Hampshire with an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) European gold medal round his neck.

At the biggest tournament the sport has ever held, with more than 3,600 competitors turning out for the five-day event, Birmingham waded through his brown master three featherweight division.

He beat Spaniard Juan Manuel Campillo Rodriguez in the final.

And now Trevor has set his sights on further success with dates set for the Pan American Championships in California in March then the World Professional Championships in Abu Dhabi in the Arab Emirates in April.

Birmingham is also looking for sponsorship to help him realise his dreams. Anyone able to help can contact him on 07973 506476.
