Totton’s Esther Adeshina impressed for the Great Britain U16 girls squad that competed in the 2017 European Winter Cup.

The GB team of Adeshina, Vic Allen and Morgan Cross, captained by coach Martin Weston, played their qualifying round in Bergen Op Zoon, Netherlands.

Other countries in the group were Serbia, Hungary, Cyprus, Belgium and host country Netherlands.

In the first game, GB defeated hosts Netherlands 3-0 with Adeshina playing as number one and defeating Margriet Timmermans 6-2, 6-0.

Adeshina then teamed up with Cross in the doubles, winning 6-3, 4-6,10-8.

The GB girls had a huge task ahead of them against the top seeds of the group, Serbia.

Adeshina, again at No 1, won an epic three set match against Mihaela Djakovic 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 to set her team on the road to victory.

The Tennis Europe Winter Cup event is played in two stages. During the qualifying stage, teams travel to compete in one of four qualifying groups, each of which hosts up to eight nations.

The winner and runner-up from each qualifying zone proceed to the final rounds.

Launched in 1977, the Tennis Europe Winter Cup has evolved into the sport’s premier indoor junior team tennis competition.
