There were double celebrations for Trojans as they came away from Basingstoke with a well-earned bonus point league victory – and a place in the final of the Gales HSB Hampshire Bowl.

The London SW3 clash was billed as a ‘double header’ with the Stoneham Lane side coming out on top 29-5 to secure sixth spot in the league and earn a cup clash against Eastleigh on April 22.

Trojans took the game to Basingstoke but also did their share of defending over the first ten minutes before Johnny Smyth dived over close to the posts and Chris Boyd added the extras.

Strong mauling by the home side got them across the line and there was just two points between the teams at half time.

However Trojans stamped their authority on the game after the interval. A maul of their own ended up with a yellow card for a home side player and prop Marcus Coffin bundled his way over for Tom Stevenson to convert.

On the quarter hour Trojans had to defend some Basingstoke attacks and a high defensive kick was allowed to bounce by the home side and No 8 Alex Williams snatched the ball from the air and charged for the line, finally offloading to Greg Ward to score under the posts to give Boyd an easy conversion.

Scrum-half Stevenson put in a scintillating run down the touch line, desperately chased by the Basingstoke defence, to score in the corner to give Trojans the bonus point before he went on to finish the scoring with a penalty.
