Trojans scored twice in three second half minutes to seal a 4-2 win over National Women’s League Western Conference visitors Olton & West Warwicks, who had staged two previous comebacks.

Sally Gibson, who was involved in three of Trojans goals, and Kathy Petch scored in quick succession to nail any further comebacks by the Midland visitors.

Trojans, chasing a third straight win and pressing for a top three finish, took an 18th minute lead through Maddy Lambrou – but Olton were quick to respond through Katie Brough.

Trojans restored their lead four minutes after the break, but once again their joy was short lived as former Great Britain Olympian Sally Walton levelled at 2-2.

But there was no coming back from the two-goal Trojans blast which settled the game and took the Stoneham girls to within one point of Olton, with two matches to play.

Gibson’s ice cool flick over the Olton goalkeeper got Trojans back in front, while Petch got a crucial deflection to the shot from Heather Batten which settled the issue.

Trojans seconds went on a 12-goal blitz in South Women’s League Division 3B – the 12-3 win over Worthing keeping them firmly in the promotion hunt.

But Fareham went down 4-1 to Wanderers at Battersea Park and Southampton were on the receiving end of a 5-0 spanking from Wimbledon.
