Hat-tricks from Paris Payne and Sheree Bell-Jack fired Southampton Women’s reserves to a comprehensive victory in the final of the Southampton Division FA Women’s Sub Cup.

Olivia Channon and Kellie Warren getting also scored to help Emma Bottomley celebrate her 300th appearance for the club in style.

Player-of-the-match Payne opened the scoring in the 35th minute by blasting a bullet of a shot into the top corner from Bell-Jack’s corner.

She curled in her second just after half-time and completed her hat-trick in the 90th minute.

An hour into the match, Bell-Jack’s efforts paid off with a 23-minute hat-trick. She curled in her second to make it 5-0 after outmuscling the Sholing defence in a surging run.

On 84 minutes Channon slotted it past the goal keeper and defender Warren found the net after a solid finish in the last ten minutes.

Reserves manager Lee Callender said: “The semi-final was a battle to say the least. Fighting back from 2-0 down and a last-minute equaliser from Hampshire Police to win 5-4 in extra time was a highlight. That was the performance that has set the standard for the rest of the season.

“When it came to the final itself I couldn’t have asked any more from the players, they executed our game plan perfectly, each one of the 16 was superb and they each gave at least a 9/10 performance.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for as it’s been a turbulent year for the reserves, so I’m thrilled they went on to repeat their performance on Sunday, beating Eastleigh FC Ladies 3-1 in the league.

“On a personal note it’s my first trophy as a Manager and this will definitely hold a special place for me."

Southampton Women U16 beat AFC Bournemouth for the third time in four weeks after showing desire and resilience in a dramatic Winchester & District U16 League Cup final.

Kia Anteney gave Southampton a second-minute lead with a shot into the far corner after a strong drive down the left.

Five minutes later, Tia Hooper floated a shot just over the bar after beating two players with some lovely footwork.

Jennifer King was just inches away from poking in Southampton’s second at the far post before Bournemouth qequalised from a 23rd-minute counter attack.

Midfielder Imogen Twigt had a header and a long shot saved by the agile Bournemouth keeper, who also kept out Anteney to ensure it was 1-1 at half-time.

Anteney and  Lisa Gilham both missed the target before Bournemouth went ahead in the 70th minute after a dubious challenge on goalkeeper Jaime Rowlands, which resulted in  a head injury.  Rowlands came off five minutes later, with Grace Jenman replacing her in goal.

When Southampton won an 88th-minute free kick just outside the box, Jenman put it into the top left corner.`

A dramatic penalty shoot-out followed the full-time whistle. Lily Shergill’s scored her retaken spot-kick after the keeper came off her line to save her first effort. 

Jenman saved two before shooting wide when she the chance to clinch the victory. But she saved another - and Sian Bradbeer scored the winner.

Managers Dave Jenman and Angus Scully said: “Everyone played their part, whether they were on the pitch for the full game or 15 minutes. We are proud of the girls for their resilience and work rate throughout the season, they really deserved to lift the trophy.”
